Hey, honey girl.
The things I want to say to you.
I can see you perched on the edge of your seat, ready to run into what looks like sunrise.
Nothing I can say will prepare you for what will come next.
I want to tell you that you don't have to go out with him if you don't want to. I want to tell you that what you want is important.
I want to tell you that you will cut your hair short, and it will look adorable, and you'll love it, but then you'll remember you were always meant to be a long-haired girl.
I want to tell you to be prepared to not get what you want. There will be many times you don't get it. Just like before, there will be many times you'll feel like second fiddle. There will be plenty of rejection. You're going to hurt and scream and curl in on yourself and sob till your head aches and you feel like there is no end to the pain of it.
But this is going to show you what you're made of. It's going to show you what you can do.
You're going to discover that you have some serious hustle. You're going to learn how to leverage that.
You're going to find out you're actually really good. And it will shock you.
You're going to learn more about the magic and miracle of the grace of Christ than you ever thought possible.
I just want you to know that I see you there, trembling in the dim half-light. I want you to know you are more than who you think you are.
You may not believe me, but you're brave.
You're absolutely stunning. People will tell you this and you won't believe them. That's alright. That's normal. One day you will.
You aren't nerdy, or the odd one out, or whatever you've always thought you were. You love hard. And that's gorgeous.
You are tenderhearted, and you feel things deeply, and from me to you, I want you to know that it's okay to feel your feelings.
You are genuine, and you don't have to try to be that way.
You are radiant, homegirl.
You're about to remember what it feels like to be you. Really you, the you that God has made.
You're about to remember, over the course of your entire life, what it means to be fearfully and wonderfully made. You're going to discover that that means you're fierce in every meaning of the word.
You've spent so much time trying to be someone else. Why do we do that? I'm still asking that question. When we're kids, we're so good at being us. Then for a single-digit period of years, we decide we want to be like everyone else, and we teach ourselves lessons on non-you-ness. We then spend the rest of our lives un-learning all of that, and rediscovering the self that God made.
I'm not sure why that is, except for the fact that the world is reeling and hurting, too.
I know you're aching, honey girl. I know you're looking for heart healing.
I am here to tell you that you are the most whole, the most yourself, when you are close to your Creator.
You're going to hurt so much, and what will rescue you every time is that you are loved by the One Who made you and died to be with you.
You are also going to experience more joy than you ever thought you could hold in your body. You're going to be so excited you feel like you're going to explode. He has given you the gift because He loves you, and that is the end of the matter.
You're about to remember what it's like to be you. It's going to feel scary. It's going to feel arrogant. It's going to feel like wielding a heavy broadsword when all you've ever picked up is a bobby pin to hold your hair back.
Let your hair down. Pick up the sword. Walk into your God-breathed identity.
Who is this who looks down like the dawn, beautiful as the moon, bright as the sun, awesome as an army with banners?
